First up today, this really made me laugh… a mini romantic tragedy played out in banner form above the dual carriageway between Ikea and Belfast… poor Robert!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Speaking of Ikea, while I was munching my lunch there today (the World Cup Special, spicy meatballs for \u00a31.75, yum!) I couldn\u2019t help overhearing the conversation between two \u201cladies of a certain age\u201d at the next table.\u00a0 The words \u201cTitanic\u201d, \u201cminister\u201d and \u201cchurch\u201d caught my attention, and when I concentrated and started eavesdropping properly, sure enough they were talking about The Dock!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>It seems that someone in their church has been spreading the word – and while some of the details were a bit skew-whiff, they got the gist!\u00a0 \u201cHe doesn\u2019t even have a church!\u201d, one of them said to the other, \u201cHe just meets people in his cafe – I think it\u2019s called Titanic Dock Cafe!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cIsn\u2019t he doing some big jump this Saturday?\u201d \u201cNo, that\u2019s already happened,\u201d said the first lady confidently.\u00a0 And then the most interesting comment of all – \u201cOf course I don\u2019t really go to church,\u201d said the lady who seemed to know all the facts!<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know who first came up with the phrase \u201cgossiping the Gospel\u201d, but this seems to me to be a great example.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t even bother me that they got some of the facts wrong! – at least they were interested.\u00a0 In the end I was a big girl\u2019s blouse and left the cafe without introducing myself to them – I think if they realised I\u2019d been listening to their conversation, they would\u2019ve been mortified! \u00a0(also, remaining anonymous was a sneaky way to get some unbiased feedback!)<\/p>\n

Last week I posted a video describing the different teams which are emerging as part of The Dock (if you missed it, check out http:\/\/www.thedockchurch.org\/blog\/?p=763<\/a>) and one of them is a team of “church ambassadors”, responsible for gossiping The Dock (which is – hopefully! – gossiping the Gospel – good news) in churches, cafes, shops, gyms, at school gates… \u00a0Obviously someone is already a Dock Ambassador without realising it! – so Thankyou, whoever you are! – but there’s room for plenty more. \u00a0Get in touch if it’s something you’d like to be a part of.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow I get the chance to share the vision for The Dock to a roomful of fellow clergy and church representatives at Diocesan Synod. \u00a0But in some ways I’m just as excited that (a slightly garbled version of) the vision was being shared over a coffee in the Ikea cafe today…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
