New year, new promises

Another fantastic Dock Walk on Sunday – for a whole load of reasons:

1.  My ma was there (hello mum!) – as many of you will know, my mum is a bit of a Dock hero – she gets up at 6:55am every time I’m on the radio, she makes cakes for the birthday parties…

2. We had a great chat about the Wordlive readings for the week, and listened again to the early chapters of Genesis – how fantastic to listen to the beautiful, poetic account of the creation of the world while walking through the TQ with all its signs of new life, new building and creativity.  Also, in one of those moments that can only happen in open-air church, as we listened to the account of the creation of wildlife and birds, a heron swooped down over the group – awesome!

3.  As we chatted we remembered that it was ‘Covenant Sunday’ for all our members from a Methodist background – the day in which they recommit themselves to God for the coming year using this most phenomenal, powerful prayer, which I thought was worth reprinting in full:

I am no longer my own, but yours.
put me to what you will,
rank me with whom you will;
put me to doing,
put me to suffering;
let me be employed for you
or laid aside for you,
exalted for you or brought low for you;
let me be full,
let me be empty;
let me have all things,
let me have nothing;
I freely and wholeheartedly yield
all things to your pleasure and disposal.

And now, glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
you are mine and I am yours.
So be it.
And the Covenant now made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven.
