All Aboard…

If you’ve been following The Dock adventure from the start, you’ll know that one of the bright ideas that kick-started the whole project was the concept that church in the Titanic Quarter would be kinda cool on a boat.

It’s not a brand new idea – as you can see from the pics it’s already being done in Canary Wharf in London and the Cardiff docks – but given Belfast’s proud history of boat building it seems too good a chance to miss.  One of the things I’ve learnt recently is that 100 years ago, Belfast docks were the envy of the entire world – no-one could touch us for size, scale and expertise in shipbuilding.

So on a slightly smaller scale, I went on a Dock Adventure a few days ago to meet a few guys involved in some ship building of their own.  In many ways, given the resources they had to work with, their achievement is no less impressive than the megaships pouring out of Belfast shipyards at the turn of the last Century.  Have a look at the new video to see what I found, and if you want to find out more about the people in the vid check out http://riverbannloughneagh.org/

As always I’ll keep you posted on all developments for Church On A Boat…

  1. Sounds good Chris.Gets you excited doesn’t it? I am also very impressed with your guitar playing!!
If it be slow-wait for it.It will not tarry. It will surely come.

  2. Great video, Chris. Inspiring. Will keep watching that space in the dock. Just shout if there’s any help you need.

  3. Once again, great vid Chris.

I think a boat is a brilliant plan – if you need anything, just shout. Al thinks you should build an Ark (see Evan Almighty for inspiration!)

    See you soon

  4. As usual your videos are so creative
The before and afters are great of the boat
I think the ark shape of a boat idea is a great idea

  5. Just watched the video. Chris you are right. There is something about a boat. I know those old Lough Neagh sand barges and I know a family firm who used them. I’ve never thought of them as anything other than a rusty old piece of scrap but, like you say – look what they did with it. It sounds brilliant. Get in there mate.

  6. Great video Chris and I am sure this will be the way to go, but if not, you will have a great career in video making. Very well done and I look forward to hearing about the next stage of the Church in the Titanic Quarter.

  7. Once again Chris an inspiring and well put togther video. Keep casting the vision – and people ‘will get on board’ ( excuse the pun!).

  8. Really interesting and entertaining video Chris, lots of food for thought. The boat idea is very appealing and bound to grab attention.
