Movements

Things are ALWAYS moving in Dock-World – in every sense of the word

Our big movement this month was to upscale Dock Market from its birthplace in the Arc Apartments to the big grown-up world of the Odyssey Pavilion.  As you would expect the Marketeers did an AMAZING job and the Odyssey was abuzz with life, creativity and quirky Dock Market charm

Here’s a few pics:

And make a diary date to do all your Christmas shopping at the upcoming Dock Markets in November and December:

Another major movement this month occurred at the far end of the TQ – when HMS Caroline moved from her berth in Alexandra Dock for the first time since 1984.  I was there (natch!) and provide the video evidence:  HMS Neverbudge budges!

(Don’t worry, she’ll be back after a few months of repairs in the tender care of Harland & Wolff):

In Dock Cafe, things are moving in the other sense of the word: it is incredibly moving and emotional to watch our amazing dream team of volunteers serve, welcome, inspire and delight hundreds of visitors every day.  This week, during half-term, we’ve met people from all over the world – and as always there are amazingly moving comments in the Visitors Book at the end of the day (“I believe there will be a Dock Cafe in Heaven” – love it!):

The ultimate (?) accolade for all their hard work came in a little mention in The Guardian newspaper this week – yes!  Wave your sandals and shake your beads – we are loved by the left!!

Another less welcome movement is that our friendly little blue sign that sits outside, welcoming passers-by to ‘rest yer wee legs’, has moved (i.e. disappeared) – if you have seen a lost sign, looking alone and afraid, please let us know so we can bring it safely home!

So with all these movements, I’ve been spending the week humming this great tune by local band Rend Collective Experiment:

Dock-SN-2016-socialAnd if you’d like to join the Dock movement for worship, space to be thankful, space to be inspired (and of course amazing coffee and all the latest news of Dock life) – this coming Sunday is our regular monthly Sunday Night at the Dock – 6pm at Dock Cafe.  So get a move on and see you there!
